For marketing, Nike uses operating systems such as macOS and Windows, since creative teams often prefer macOS for design and media production, while Windows supports business applications and analytics tools. Mobile operating systems like iOS and Android are also used for apps, social media management, and customer engagement.

    Application software is a type of software that is programmed to run on client or server computers or devices. The software provides instructions for hardware; this is often in the form of java or python to help the user work. An example of a software application would be Gmail. Application softwares are categorized in two forms: vertical and horizontal. Vertical market application is an application that is specific to an industry, while horizontal market application can be used within an industry. An example of a vertical market application used within the company Nike is the Nike SNKRS app. This is an application dedicated to the promotion of the sneaker industry and its consumers. This app provides users with access to new and upcoming releases. It is effective in keep consumers engaged with Nike products, sales, and marketing. It transforms the in-store experience into a digital more remote and convenient experience. An example of horizontal market application used by Nike is Instagram. Instagram would be considered a horizontal market application because it is used by a diverse range of industries not just sneakers. Instagram is effective in creating a social connection with customers promoting collabs, value, and products.

              What are some types of new technologies? Can Nike use one or more of them? How?
 Some examples of new technologies are Augmented Reality, Advanced AI, and Robotic Delivery Services. Augmented reality replaced an individual’s environment and replaced it with a digital one. Robotic delivery services are being used as a quick and convenient form of service to distribute products. Advanced AI is a fully autonomous intelligence system; I think that advanced AI could be implemented into Nike’s CRM process to enhance the buying experience.With the use of Advanced AI customers are provided with real time personalized customer service, to help with recommendations and finding the best product for them.

 To support the inventory process at Nike, the company uses RFID technology and ERP systems like SAP to track and store inventory data. The information in the system is organized into fields and files.
Fields, also known as columns, are defined as “groups of bytes in a database table. Each field represents an attribute of an entity” (Kroenke & Boyle, 2023). In other words, fields are specific pieces of data within each record. In Nike’s inventory system, examples of fields include Product ID, Product Name, Size, Color, SKU, Quantity in Stock, Warehouse Location, and Shipment Status.
Files, also known as tables, are defined as “a group of similar rows or records. Each row in a file contains data for all fields in that table” (Kroenke & Boyle, 2023). In other words, a file is a collection of related records. An example in Nike’s system is the Inventory File, which stores all product inventory data across warehouses, stores, and online channels.
Metadata is defined as data about data. It helps describe and manage the data stored in the system. For example, in the Quantity in Stock field, metadata can include the data type (integer), the last updated date, and the user or system that updated it. Metadata helps Nike ensure accuracy and consistency across its inventory system.

                                                What is DBMS? Which one does Nike use?
 A Database Management System (DBMS) is defined as a software program used to create, process, and administer a database (Kroenke & Boyle, 2023). Nike uses SAP as part of its ERP system, which includes a DBMS to manage its data. SAP supports Nike’s inventory process by storing and organizing data related to products, shipments, suppliers, and stock levels.
Nike’s DBMS works together with RFID systems and analytics tools like Power BI to ensure inventory is tracked in real time. This allows Nike to monitor stock levels, manage supply chain operations, and make decisions based on accurate data.

 Database applications are the programs that users use to interact with the database server. These include forms, reports, queries, and application programs. Nike uses database applications through its SAP ERP system, RFID tracking systems, and analytics tools.
Reports in Nike’s system show inventory levels, sales trends, and demand forecasts. For example, managers can view reports that show which products are low in stock or which items are selling quickly.
Forms are used to input and update data. For example, warehouse employees may use forms to enter new inventory when shipments arrive or update stock levels after transfers between locations.
Queries are used to retrieve specific data from the database. For example, a manager may run a query to find all products with low inventory levels or to check stock availability in a specific region.

 New database technologies include cloud databases, NoSQL databases, real-time databases, and AI-powered databases. At Nike, these can help make both inventory and marketing better. For inventory, Nike can use cloud and real-time databases to see how many products they have in stores and warehouses right away, which helps avoid running out and makes shipping faster. For marketing, NoSQL and AI-powered databases can look at customer data and online activities to create more personalized ads and recommendations. Overall, these technologies help Nike work faster, make smarter decisions, and run more efficiently.

 LAN is a group of computers and devices connected within a limited geographic area, such as an office, store, or a campus. It allows devices to share data, communicate, and access resources like printers or the internet. Components of LAN include devices like computers and printers, routers, and wireless access points (AP). Nike does have a LAN, in the inventory process Nike uses LAN to connect systems like scanners and registers so inventory is updated in real time as product is received, transferred, or sold.

 The Internet is a global network that connects computers and devices worldwide, the internet uses TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, FTP, AND SMTP protocols to help people around the world share information, access resources and communicate. Nike connects to the internet through internet service providers using routers and secure network systems across its stores, offices, and warehouses. Nike’s domain name is Nike.com.




                                                     What is the Cloud? Why is it important?

 Cloud represents the servers accessed on the internet over the internet, also including the software and databases that also run on those same servers. Cloud is important as allows companies to store their information remotely, helps reduces costs, and helps creates value.

                                                    Is Nike using a cloud based service as its IS? 

Our company, Nike, does use a cloud base service system as their primary information systems infrastructure. The type they use is IaaS; an infrastructure as a Service. The specific one they use is the Amazon Web Services. It handles funclutaions, high volume requests, and can handle monthly deploys.

                                        What are some issues or problems with Nikes networks? 
 Nike as in early in 2026, has had problems with Cybersecurity Breaches, Weaknesses in Supply Chain, and Operational Network Challenges. Some recommendations that are needed could be improving supply chain security and investing in real time monitoring or AI detection.
